We continue work on this Twin Cam 24 Celica XX. In order to raise the front engine member, it is placed on the machining center to calculate each measurement. The machining center is rented by a subcontractor, but we perform all measurements and processing ourselves. There are no bends and condition is very good. This car is originally a door mirror model but we changed it to fender mirrors. The frame slicing that we showed in the last post has been patched and welded with a new plate. The muffler is fully raised, and a C-notch was cut in the rear member to accomodate it. The rear has been shortened so that the 10J can tuck inside normal fender. The factory automatic transmission was removed in favor of a W55 which we had on hand from a previous project. The propeller shaft is not suited for automatic and a factory GX61 part is very hard to come by, so a 100-series Mark II part was used in its place. We continue with our progress work of our GX61 Mark II. The paint was quite weathered and faded on most of the body, especially the bonnet which had bubbling and peeling all across the surface. We sanded and prepped the entire body for paint and completely stripped the bonnet in order to reach a suitable base for the primer surfacer and paintwork to come. This was a front lip that we had on hand from our own GX71 from about 5 years ago that luckily fit up to this car without any major modification to it. Here’s a bit of the progress on the custom work of the 4-door Chaser we previously introduced. The exhaust is a straight pipe raised up snug to the body to allow clearance. The rear fenders have been delicately rolled, taking quite a bit of skill so as not to distort the beautiful factory fender line in any way. We have already started work on this pristine classic which still has its original number plate from back in the day.
